Year in review

So Christmas is this Saturday and I have been thinking about everything that has happened this year. January started kind of slow but set up a lot of it. I had started playing frisbee with a group on Wednesday nights meeting some new people. February is where everything started changing started dating a wonderful girl who really challenged me got me back into church and just helped me get back out into life. March, April and May I got to do lots of things. I went to the Grand Canyon for the first time since I was 4ish, about a month after that I was able to go on a back packing trip down into the Grand Canyon which was just amazing and a wonderful experience. During that time I started playing in my first frisbee league was a really fun time. June was my birthday nothing to crazy just a fun night at D & B. I joined the fall frisbee league that team didn't do as well played with two different softball teams at the same time they didn't do so well either lol. The whole time I started helping with the youth group at my church and trying to learn more. I ran a 5k which was the farthest I had ever ran at the time and afterwards started training for a 10k. Thanksgiving and now Christmas.
It has been a great year did lots of new things, met new people and had lots of fun.

10k...and all that jazz

So I am supposed to be in my 4th week of training for the 10k I am trying to run January 29th. Had quit a few distractions lately: my car was broken into and my wallet was stolen (super fun times), my closest friend, the person that help me stick to the running, and the person that is gonna run with me in the 10k was gone for 2 and a half weeks of my training. Generally being poor and putting for some effort to find a better financial position have all pulled me away from really wanting to run. But despite all that I am gonna get back at it over the next 8 or 9 weeks and be ready to kick butt at the London's Run 10k.

All I want for Christmas...

So it is getting close to November which means people will probably start looking at presents to buy people for Christmas. So i decided to make a list :)

Pair of size 11 black Chucks (high top)
Pair of size 11.5 Nike Air Pegasus +27 or Asics Gel-Cumulus 12
L or XL tee shirts or button up shirts (size depending on length of shirt)
Size 34 loose fitting jeans (not a fan of tight jeans)
A Digital SLR (nikon) or a Nikon Coolpix S640

Those are all the things I can think of to this point that I want.

I guess that brings me to thinking about what I want verses what I need. What I need is totally different.
I NEED to pay off my debt (which is a lot)
I NEED to probably eat better
I NEED to be more diligent in my faith

Guess that is something I would encourage everyone to think about as the holiday season starts to approach.

All that athletic stuff

I have been playing Ultimate Frisbee in a league every week, a couple of softball games a week and training for my 5k run over the last month. This past week I had to miss my frisbee game and one of my softball games because I flew out to Oklahoma to visit my family and help my Grandmother drive back to Arizona, but while I was out there I was in my last week of training for my 5k, I was also able to make it back home in time to make the second softball game of the week and it went pretty good. We lost out game but we started to play better as the game went on and made a great come back that fell just short. I had 2 hits, the second one being a in the park Home Run which was only the second one I have ever hit (first in the park one though) so I was pretty excited. The next morning was my run with my friend Shelly, we ran in the 19th Annual Frank Kush 5k. It was a really nice morning perfect for a run. I was able to run the whole thing (which was my main goal) and actually had my best time. The results are at list here I finished 180th. I think I might keep training and possibly shoot for a 10k in the not to distant future.

Tombstone

This is a really late post but oh well that is how it goes sometimes. A few weeks back I went down to Tombstone, Arizona with my friend Shelly. She had never heard about Tombstone and had never seen any of the movies about the town or of any of the famous cowboys. She is also who took all the pictures. It was a good time, saw a few of the shoes that they put on and saw almost all of the sites. I grew up in Arizona and had heard the stories and seen the movies about Tombstone. One of my families favorites has always been the story of the shoot out at the OK Corral with Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday.Walking around town was fun, all the people dressed up in costumes playing out there characters. After hearing about it for so many years it was really fun to get to finally see it.It was a really good day the sites and people were great and the food wasn't to bad either. I had great company which always makes a trip better. I now know some of the places to go to if I take anyone down that direction again.

Run Jeremy Run

So I recently decided to try and run a 5k race. It will be the Frank Kush 5k happening on Oct 16, 2010. My first goal in running it is to do just that actually run the whole 5k, the second goal is to see if I can get my average mile time to 10mins or less.
I have started to train with some advice from a few friends that have done 5ks, 10ks, half-marathons, full-marathons and even a half ironman, so I think I am getting good advice.
I have been running for distance 3 days a week building up to longer runs each week, 2 days of cross-training which has been walking because I don't have a gym or a bike to use currently and taking 2 rest days a week. All of that on top of playing frisbee two nights a week and softball two nights a week also.
One advantage to all this running that I have noticed so far is a little bit of weight loss, haven't kept track of how much but a low guess is that I have lost 5 lbs over the last couple week while building a little bit of muscle. My cardio is way better also.
Only a couple more weeks left of training before the race so hopefully it all comes together for me for a good first 5k.

Lay Out

So I have been heading up a weekly Ultimate Frisbee game for the youth at church for the last 4 weeks and it has been really fun. It is actually kind of crazy to me that I have been the one in charge of planning and getting the info out about it, I usually get in on other peoples ideas. But yeah 4 weeks and even though our numbers have dropped a little each week those who show up tell me that they have lots of fun and want to know if we are gonna do it the next week, I even had one girl tell me it was the highlight of her week....that was totally awesome but totally surprising as well. To think that some little game that I start up on the weekend has become the highlight of somebodies week, crazy.

All that said I have had some help getting the word out since my church has two campuses and I only help at one of them right now. My buddy Anthony (who loves frisbee also has been there every week with me) has helped tons and even came up with ideas for themes for each week so we could try and give out a prize, but last Saturday was his last time out as he heads back to NAU to start classes this week.

I am gonna try and keep it going since I love to play and hearing some of the reactions of the students it really seems like something worth putting my time (and some money) into. I mean they are already started going out for food or snow-cones afterward and calling it a tradition after only 4 weeks lol.

Bear Canyon Lake

This past weekend was a busy one for me. Friday night I had setup a frisbee night for the youth group at church had a great turn out about 20 kids and some adults. Had a great time played some great ultimate and had some epic plays. It was lots of fun and I might have to plan another one soon. Right after Ultimate was over I ran home took a shower threw some stuff in a bag and headed to bear canyon lake to meet up with my cousin and her husband for a weekend of camping.I got there at about 11pm, and after frisbee and driving I was pretty tired, but I stayed up, chatted and hung out around the camp fire. I was super excited about that, ever since one of my friends got back from a family vacation and talked about how all her clothes smelled like smoke (from camp fires) I have wanted to go camping so bad, so staying up a little longer was totally worth it.I am usually a pretty light sleeper and on camping trips that is probably even more true, so Saturday morning I was up around 7am a good 2 hours before the others woke up. With all my extra time I walked around and took some pictures and found some more wood for our camp fire and then sat listening to music for about another hour lol. After everyone got up and we ate some breakfast we decided to walk down to the lake and check it out. Wasn't to far from out campsite (about a mile). It was a cloudy (and sometimes rainy weekend) so when we got down to the lake I decided to take the short side and check out the dam...I was very disappointed, there was not much of a dam to look at, but the fact that as soon as we got to the dam it started raining pretty heavily on us.Needless to say by the time we got back to camp we were soaked and so was anything we had left out (my hoodie), but on the bright side it had stopped raining and didn't start again till we were going to bed. We spent the rest of Saturday hanging out and keeping the fire up before calling it a day around 10ish.Sunday I again woke up at about 7am (even though I thought I had made myself sleep in longer) so I decided to walk around again and take some more pictures trying to be super creative. When everyone woke up we decided a fire wasn't worth it after all the rain that fell the night before so we packed up and headed out. That would have been the end of the story except on the way home, south bound on the highway 87, there were 2 accidents within a mile of each other, the worse of the two involving 2 horse trailers 4 cars and a semi-truck, which actually stopped traffic for about 30 minutes or more. People started turning off their vehicles and walking around, I only bring this up because it was the first time I have been in traffic where lots of people got out of their cars and walked around. It made me feel like I was in a movie.

July the 4th

So this is late but on the 4th of July I got to watch fireworks at church. They put on a pretty good show, they have a lot of land so they were able to use big fireworks.
I got out there about 7 so it wasn't dark yet cause I live in Arizona where in the summer you think the sun is never gonna set lol.I had brought my frisbee to pass the time before it got dark and the fireworks started, but there was absolutely no space for that to happen until after and everyone was leaving, that is when me and some of the youth started throwing the frisbee around. All in all it was a fun and enjoyable night, though it was a little warm I had a awesome bombpop to cool me off and some yummy water. Saw some old friends and hung out with the youth with a great fireworks show.

Goodbye Buddy

So yesterday was kind of a sad day, the goldfish I have had for nearly 3 years started the day off swimming around upside down. By the afternoon there was much less swimming going on. I finally decided that it was time to let him go. I know 3 years is a pretty long time for a fish you buy at Wal-Mart but then again once you have had something around that long it is sad to have to let it go. I am not totally heart broken and do have plans to get more fish (thinking a shark tank is next) but he was the biggest and longest living fish I have ever had.

Goodbye Buddy

Gideon

Today we went over Gideon at church today. His story applies to anyone who has ever wondered how God is going to use them, because they just aren't ____ enough. I remember back when I was in High School a band called the W's was kinda popular in christian music and they had a song that mentioned Gideon saying "Gideon could never understand how God could use an itty bitty man like me". Funny enough I actually had this song going through my head as I realized that Gideon was the topic of today's sermon. It was a good one and I recommend reading about him in Judges if you need in encouragement with the question of how can God use me when I am not ____ enough.

Junior High Camp

Couple weeks ago I went with the junior high group from church to their summer camp up near Blue Jay, Ca. It was a pretty long trip though we only stopped twice which I think was impressive for junior high bladders.
I think I got a stomach bug just before we left, because I didn't feel well the first 3 days of camp, but I made the best of it and tried to have a good time and be there for the junior highers.
One day we got to go out to the ropes course where they had something called the Centurion which is a tree you climb 100ft up to a platform and jump off trying to grab a trapeze there wasn't enough time for everyone to do it so only a few of the kids that really wanted to had the chance, but there where other elements such as a wall and a zip line which I was able to do. Wednesday we went out to the ocean, for me it was basically the first time I have ever been (parents say it happened when i was like 2) It was lots of fun and very salty lol.One night we had a belly flop contest for the kids, was good times. My group of guys started off weak but redeemed themselves by having two out of the top 4 flops.
All in all it was a great trip that was lots of fun mixed with a great message by our speaker Joel Mayward. The kids had tons of fun yet lots to think about as well.It was a beautiful area, I got to go to the ocean, had tons of fun and I got to be around God in a semi quiet very peaceful place. What more could I ask for?

My first post

What to say? Just starting this and gonna see how it goes. Might put up crazy adventures, neat pictures or ridiculous stories.
