So I recently decided to try and run a 5k race. It will be the Frank Kush 5k happening on Oct 16, 2010. My first goal in running it is to do just that actually run the whole 5k, the second goal is to see if I can get my average mile time to 10mins or less.
I have started to train with some advice from a few friends that have done 5ks, 10ks, half-marathons, full-marathons and even a half ironman, so I think I am getting good advice.
I have been running for distance 3 days a week building up to longer runs each week, 2 days of cross-training which has been walking because I don't have a gym or a bike to use currently and taking 2 rest days a week. All of that on top of playing frisbee two nights a week and softball two nights a week also.
One advantage to all this running that I have noticed so far is a little bit of weight loss, haven't kept track of how much but a low guess is that I have lost 5 lbs over the last couple week while building a little bit of muscle. My cardio is way better also.
Only a couple more weeks left of training before the race so hopefully it all comes together for me for a good first 5k.
